Introduction
Bhairava Temple is dedicated to the Lord Bhairava, a fierce form of Lord Shiva, located in Barsur Town in Dantewada District in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The temple is situated on Jagdalpur to Bhopalpatnam route.
Puranic Significance
This temple might have been built in 10th – 11th century AD by Nagavanshi Kings. Historical inscriptions and coins associated with the Nala Dynasty Kings have been discovered in the Chhattisgarh and Dandakaranya regions. These findings provide valuable insights into the historical and cultural heritage of the area.
Special Features
The Temple is in complete ruins and is hidden in the bushes. It is a simple temple with only sanctum. It is about 5 feet high. It can be entered only by leaning. The sanctum houses a image of Bhairava.
