The Irai Aayiram Udaiyar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Amoor Village, Thiruporur Taluk, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity is Irai Aayiram Udaiyar, and the Goddess is Thirupurasundari. The temple is approximately 1 km from Amoor Bus Stop, 24 km from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, and 50 km from Chennai Airport. The village is situated on the Thiruporur–Thirukazhukundram Road.
Puranic Significance
This temple is believed to be over 1,000 years old and is an architectural and spiritual treasure. Facing east, the temple has a south-facing entrance. Key features of the temple include:
- Sanctum Sanctorum: Houses the presiding deity Irai Aayiram Udaiyar, represented as a unique white Lingam.
- Koshta Idols: Includes Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma, and Durga, adorning the sanctum walls.
- Chandikeswarar Shrine: Located in its traditional place.
- Goddess Thirupurasundari: Enshrined in a separate south-facing shrine with an Ardha Mandapam.
- Additional shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Surya, Jyestha Devi, and Kala Bhairava can also be found in the temple complex.
The temple premises include a well and a pond, with the Sthala Vriksham (sacred tree) being the Sara Kondrai.

- Jeshta Devi Vigraham: A special idol of Jeshta Devi is located behind the main sanctum.
- Continuously Growing Bhairava: The Kala Bhairava idol is believed to grow over time, a phenomenon that enhances the temple’s mystique.
- Picturesque Setting: Surrounded by lush green farmlands, the temple provides a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
The temple derives its name, Irai Aayiram Udaiyar, from the legend that 1,000 cows once grazed in the region.
