Puranic Significance
Adiyakamangalam; during the Reign of the First Rajaraja Chola. It has been given as Adiyappimangalam and Adiyappiya Chaturvedimangalam a thousand years ago, inscriptions also show that Ursabha performed well in this town. Today it is a small town and has three Shiva temples. Out of the three temples, two temples are dedicated as Kashi Vishwanath and one as Asupathiswarar. Most of the town has been inhabited by non-religious people. Among them, Ashupadeeshwar temple is in the middle of their residence and other two temples are on the main road.
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. This temple is situated on the left side of the main road. Although this temple faces east, the road is on the south side. As the road level is high, you have to go down a little and enter through the front tower. Here the Lord Kashivishwanatha to the east and Mother Kashivisalatsi to the south side of the sanctum. The Lord is in the form of a small linga, and the goddess is also in a small form. Opposite is Nandi in the hall.
Recently, the temple has been flooded, the temple is being worshiped regularly in the morning, afternoon and evening, and an old woman and a priest are available to the Lord for cleaning.
