Introduction

Villankurichi Bhagavatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, Located in the Villankurichi village, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Bhagavatheeswarar and Mother is called as Bhagavatheeswari. This temple is located in the village of Villankurichi near Coimbatore Sathyamangalam Road, north of Coimbatore. The temple can be reached by buses from Gandhipuram bus station.

Puranic Significance 

The Pandyas ruled the Kongu region is one of the available inscriptions in the temple. With this, it is believed that the temple may have been built during the Pandya period with the fish symbol on the wall of the artha Mandapam and the sanctum wall. The Temple is believed to be more than 2000 years old; the temple has been renovated recently.

Beliefs

Those who come to this place and worship sincerely, all their wishes in life are fulfilled. If those who are barred from marriage participate in the Thirukalyanam of Swami in Chitra Poornima, the ban will be removed and the marriage will take place soon.

If childless people participate in the 7 pradosha pujas and offer fruits to Swami and then take the prasads and eat them, they get good results soon.

Special Features

  On entering the east facing temple there is a lamp post with separate hall. Murugan, Kamathenu, Ganesha and Trishul are carved in relief on the square base. Near the altar is a carved Nandi towards lord Shiva. Next to the Maha Mandapam.

At the entrance of the Mahamandapam there are separate shrines for Lord Ganesha, Murugan and Anjaneya. In the sanctum sanctorum, Bhagavathy Iswaralingam has risen. There is a Sandeeswarar shrine near Gomugam. To the right of the Moolavar Sannidhi is the east facing Bhagwatheeswari Sannidhi which is also built in the structure of sanctum sanctorum, Artha Mandapam. Outside the front hall is the south facing Bhairava shrine and Navagraha shrine. On the south-west side, there is a 21-faced sculpture of Lord Krishna with a cow in the middle of a Serpent. Next to it are the idols of Sabthakanniyar.

Festivals

Chitra Poornima in April-May; Vaikasi Visakam in May-June; Aadi Pooram in July-August; Vinayaka Chathurthi in August-September; Navarathri in September-October; Maha Shivrathri in February-March are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
