Introduction
Agastheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Vidangalur Village in Kilvelur Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Agastheeswarar and Mother is called as Sathiyathakshi. Vidangalur is 13 km south of Kielvellur on the Satyakudy road. It is such a simple temple. The Excellent chola construction, believed to be 1000 years old. The temple is situated in a large complex. This dilapidated temple has been restored and rebuilt. But its beauty remains undiminished.
Puranic Significance
It is believed that Sage Agasthya and Vidanga Munivar worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Agastheeswarar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Sathiyathakshi. She is housed in a separate shrine. There are shrines for Valampuri Vinayagar, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Anjaneya and Mahalakshmi in the Temple premises.
