Introduction
Veppathangudi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Veppathangudi village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. 13 km south of Tiruvarur on Tiruthurapoondi road, turn left before Mavur Bridge and go 2 km to reach Veppathangudi. The village is situated in the middle of vast fields where the Chitthar, which separates from the Villiyanur, flows through the village. On the banks of Periyakulam there is the Perumal Temple and on the north-east of the town is the Shiva Temple on the banks of another big pond.
Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord – Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Sivakamasundari. The Lord is in the east facing sanctum and Ambika is in the south facing sanctum. At the gate of Lord’s palace are the beautiful Vinayaka and Murugan. Nandi is in the front hall in front of the Lord. Thenmugan is in separate sanctum and Durga is in the north side of the temple. As per the name of the town, there is a large Neem growing in the backyard of the temple. The Kailashanath temple itself can be said to be thousands of years old.
