Introduction
Navaneetha Krishna Swamy Temple is dedicated to God Vishnu located at Veerakeralampudur Village in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. The village is surrounded by two rivers Chittar River and Hanumanathi. Both Hanumanathi and Chittar River merges rightly exactly in this village thus forming the major tributary to Thamirabarani River. The Temple is believed to be the family deity of Utrumalai Kings and is about 1000 years old.Veerakeralampudur is located at about 22 Kms from Tenkasi, 48 Kms from Thirunelveli and 130 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram.
Puranic Significance
Presiding Deity is Navaneetha Krishna Swamy. He is holding the Butter Pot in both the hands with a smiling face and he is facing east. Garuda is facing the sanctum with folded hands. Thala Vriksham is Amla Tree. Theertham of this Temple is Chithar. Dwajasthambam of this temple is made of gold. Urchavar is Navaneetha Krishnan with Sridevi and Bhoodevi and is located in the Mandapam in front of sanctum. The Vimanam over the sanctum houses Navaneetha Krishnan in the east, Dhakshinamoorthy in the south, Yoga Narasimha in the west and Brahma in the north and the top of the vimana is equipped with Bronze Kalasha. Shrines of Dasavathara, Dhanavanthri, Thumbikai Azhwar, Azhwars, Ramanujar, and Garudazhvar are located in the Temple. Anjaneya is located in the northern pillar of the Mandapam housing the Urchavar.
Special Features
Annamalai Reddiyar has sung songs on this temple. Veerai Andhadhi, Veerai Pillai Tamizh, Veerai Thalapuranam, Veerai Navaneetha Krishnaswamy Pathigam and Gomathi Anthathi are the works done by Annamalaiyar on this Temple.
Festivals
Panguni Uthiram, Thai Pongal, Dushera, Vaikunda Ekadesi, Karthigai Deepam, Last Saturday in Tamil Month, Krishna Jayanthi and Purattasi Saturdays are the festivals celebrated with much fanfare in this Temple.
