Introduction
Vatharayanthethu Shiva temple is located in the Bhuvangiri circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord Shiva in the form of Lingam. Vatharayanthethu stop is 3 km from Setiyatopu junction. This ancient Shiva temple has been destroyed and regenerated.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old. There is a single sanctum Shiva temple facing east on the south bank of the big pond. There is a big royal tree in front of the temple. Under it are a Ganesha and an altar. The Lord has a temple with a single sanctum towards the east. A Nandi and an altar are also erected in front of his gate. A Vinayaka and Valli theivanai Sametha Murugan are at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum. Shani Bhagavan is in the north-east corner of the front hall. And other deities are Tenmugan and Durga.
