Introduction

Vadavanchar is a small Village/hamlet in Mayiladuthurai circle in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu State, India. It comes under Elanthoppu Panchayath. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Kamakshi amman. The temple is said to be 1000 years old Shiva temple. In Vadavanchar town, if you take a left turn near an Iyanar temple, there are no houses around the Shiva temple, only fields.

Puranic Significance

Lord – Kailasanathar Goddess – Kamakshi has a decorative arch with high walls. At this place the Lord has an east facing sanctum. The goddess also has a sanctum facing south. A mandapam has been recently constructed of cement to join the two sanctums. It is said that this Sthalam Lord appeared to Indra as a married couple. The sanctums have the newly created Tenmukhan Lingodpavar Brahmaand Durga. As usual, Sandesar is present in the temple. Cement square stones have been used to surround the prakaram. Next to Vinayagar in the southwest, Valli Deivanai Sametha Muruga, Navagraha is in the northeast. Sun and Moon Bhairava shrines are built like small domes along the wall inside the entrance of the temple.
