Introduction
Vadakarkadu Oppilamaniyar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Vadakarkadu, Karaikal circle, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. This sthalam is also known as Vadamanikadu as it is known as vadakarkadu.This is a small east facing temple with a three tiers Raja Gopuram.Here the lord is called as Oppolamaniyar and Mother is called as Sundarambal.
Puranic Significance
The Lord is blessed with the name Oppilamaniyar in this greatness. His goddess name is called as Sundarambal. It seems to have been built during the Chola period with the prastra of the sanctum sanctorum. There is a statue of a Chola king at the gate of the temple. The temple is said to be more than 1300 years old. Here the Lord Oppilamani has a medium size lingam. The Soundarambal shrine is situated towards the south on the right side of the lord. The facade is decorated with beautiful statues.
At the front there is the Arthamandapam and then there is a long mandapam to the Rajagopuram in which Nandi is facing the Lord. Karurai Kottam has Tenmugan lingotpavar Brahman Durga. There is a neem tree in the south-west. In the north-east are Navagrahas, and four, Bhairava and Saturn. There is a pond in front of this temple.
