Introduction
The Lokeshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Udagi Village in Sedam Taluk, Kalaburagi District, Karnataka, India. Believed to have been built in the 10th century CE during the Rashtrakuta Dynasty’s reign, this east-facing temple is an architectural and historical gem.
The temple comprises three main sections: sanctum, antrala, and sabha mandapa. Inside the sanctum, you will find the presiding deity, Lord Lokeshwara, in the form of a Shiva Linga, which sits within a square yonipitha. The sanctum is crowned with a pyramidal-style shikara (superstructure), adding to its architectural beauty.
In the temple courtyard, you’ll also find a deepa stambha (lamp post), likely used for lighting oil lamps during religious ceremonies and festivals. The temple is situated along the Sedam to Chittapur route via Diggaon, making it accessible for devotees and visitors interested in exploring its historical and religious significance.
