It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams – Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Tirugnanasambandar and Sundarar. Saint Sambandar is believed to have obtained a golden cymbal miraculously in this temple. Tirtha: Solar Tirtha, Ananda Tirtha (is in front of the temple) mythical name: captapuri, tiruttalamutaiyar Temple. Thala Virutcham : Kondrai Theertham : Surya and Ananda theerthams opposite the temple
Puranic Significance
Thiruna Sambandar, enlightened by Goddess Parvati, went to many places and saw Lord Shiva singing to the rhythm with his little hands. Unable to envy the child’s hands, he gave him two rhythms made of gold. Sambandar tapped. But the noise did not come from it. The goddess immediately sang to that rhythm. That is why the source here is called Thalapuriswarar and the goddess Osainayaki.
Beliefs
Those who are unable to speak should come here and bathe in the Ananda Theertham and pray to the heroine of Osai, “Give me the power to speak, heroine who has given sound to the material rhythm,” and the goddess should put honey at her feet and take it and eat it. Since Mahalakshmi is the place where Mahavishnu got married from penance, it is said that the marriage will take place soon if the women adorned Mahalakshmi here on Mondays and Fridays for 6 consecutive weeks with turmeric powder. When the power of speech comes, they buy a golden rhythm and pay tribute.
