Introduction
Thiruvisanallur Agrahara theru Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thiruvisanallur, Kumbakonam taluk, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This Shiva temple is located on the east corner of the road where the Thiruvisanallur Sridhara Ayyaval Mutt is located. Here the primary deity is called as Lord- Vishwanath and Mother is called as Visalakshi.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This temple is an East facing temple, were the Lord is in East side and mother is in South side. In the south, opposite the Ambikai shrine, there is a beautiful nandhavana mandapam through which one can enter the temple.
There are lakhs of deities of Goddess Lakshmi Saraswati on both sides of the south gate. The Lord’s shrine is made of black stone and is built with brick. There is a Nandi in front of the Lord and a Nandi in the courtyard. There are only Tenmuga and durga in sanctum. The hall has a long corridor, first Vinayagar, then Vaganamandapam, and next Valli deivayani Murugan Sanctum. Mahakalakshmi shrine is in the North West side. There is a well in the north-east and a shrine to Sani Bhagavan in the corner of the Navagraga Mandapam.
