Introduction

Thiruneiper Nami Nandi Adigal Temple is located in the Thiruneiper town, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Naminandi Adigal was one of the sixty-three Nayanmars who originated from the Anthanarakula at Thiruneiper near Thiruvarur.

Puranic Significance

He used to go to Thiruvarur every day to worship the Lord Shiva. One day he worshiped the Thiruvarur temple and then he was doing many charities. A desire arose to light a lamp and worship there. Then he went to a house in Thiruvarur to get oil for the lamp as he could not go, because it was late in the evening. The house he went to was Samanar’s house. The Jamans there bowed down and said, ‘Your Lord, who carries a light in His hand, does not need a lamp. Ghee is not here. They said, ‘If you burn a lamp, burn water.’ Hearing that, he bowed his head and bowed before the Lord.

Then ‘Naminandhi! Let go of your worries. The water in the pool near it suddenly appeared, saying, “Listen to the light.” Naminandiyadigar, who was happy to hear that, went to the pond and recited the script, took water and went to the temple. He turned around and explained. He found the lamp glowing and illuminated the entire temple. He filled it with water so that many lamps were burning. In this way, he was praised as Nayanmar for his amazing work. Chola king gave a lot of donations to Lord and appointed Naminandi Adi as the head to conduct them according to Saiva Agama rules. Naminandhi’s house, which is so proud, is on Thiruneiper. This house has now been converted into a small temple. This small Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
