Introduction
Thirukalappur Thirukodivanatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Thirukalappur village, Udayarpalayam circle, Ariyalur district, Tamil Nadu. Thirukalapur village is a temple built by Chola’s descendants; the temple is made of Sembaran stone.It is also one of the sites where Agathiyar was worshipped. It is also known as Upper Chidambaram.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. The east facing temple has no rajagopuram but a large kalharam has been erected for it. Beyond it is the majestic Nandi Mandapam and altar. The presiding deity is Lord-Thirukodivanatheeswarar is facing East side and Goddess-Kamakshi amman is facing south side. There are two Ganeshas on either side of the front hall gate. Tenmukhan is in a small monastery in Sanctum sanctorum. The prakaram has shrines for Lord Ganesha and some small lingams. There is a separate sanctum for Nataraja, and the front hall has so many carvings on its doors.
