- The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated in Thaiyur village, which is near Kelambakkam.
- In Thaiyur, there are four Shiva temples and an Amman temple. The place was initially known as “Thaikaja Muruganur” due to Lord Muruga being made of sandstone at the Sri Murugeeswarar Temple. Over time, this name has evolved into “Thaiyur.”
Puranic Significance:

- The temple faces east and is located on the bund of the Thaiyur Lake. A newly excavated temple tank is situated on the left side of the temple.
- The presiding deity of the temple is known as Sri Jalakandeswarar, and the goddess is Sri Thayil Nayaki. In front of the main deity, there is a balipeedam and a Nandi (sacred bull). Additionally, there are idols of Lord Vinayagar, Bala Murugan, Ambal Thaiyal Nayaki (facing south), and Kalabhairava within the temple shed.
- It is believed that the original temple was constructed alongside the Sri Murugeeswarar Temple in Thaiyur village but was later destroyed.
