Introduction

Sengamangalam Shanthapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, Located in the Sengamangalam village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. There are two Shiva temples in this town, one Mughalingeshwarar temple and Shanthapureeswarar Shiva Temple. The temple is spread over an area of one acre and has an entrance with the remains of Vinayagar Murugan on the east, surrounded by walls.

Puranic Significance 

         The Temple is believed to be 600 years old. Here the Lord is called as Shanthapureeswarar and Mother is called as Shantanayaki has a sanctum towards the east and Ambigai is towards the south. The sanctum sanctorum and mandapam are built with black stone. The Lord is a medium-sized Lingamurthi, Ambika is also in a beautiful form. Outside the front hall there is a small Nandi and a Kodimara vinayakar.

Among Karuvarai there is only Vinayagar Tenmugan. The prakaram is completely covered with cement and has shrines for Selvavinayakar and Valli theivanai murugan. In the middle of the two sanctums there is a tree entwined with neem, under which three Nagas are placed and worshipped.
