Introduction
Puduppathur Punnaivanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Puduppathur village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Puduppattur is a small village, in this town there are two Shiva temples are there. Here the primary deity is called as Lord – Punnaivanathar. Because the temple is located in an area surrounded by sacred trees, he is known as Punnaivanatha. Goddess – Sri santhanayagi, mercy and gentleness, who blesses all those who come with two eyes. This temple is at the end of a small street leading west from the main road. The temple was in a state of disrepair for a long time and was recently renovated.
Puranic Significance
In front of the Lord there is a long arthamandapam and the Mahamandapam, the upper roof has been made into a flat roof after the decay of the conical one. Opposite the ambigai is a wide conical hall. In this Maha Mandapam there are two Selvavinayakar Siddhivinayakar and Subramani are presented. The sanctum sanctorum is of brickwork with wonderful carvings. Dakshnamurthy is displayed in the most beautiful posture in Karurai. Here the Lord has a sanctum facing west and Ambigai on his left side facing east and nandi is placed opposite to the lord.
Vishnu Durga is placed in the northern side of the temple. Sandesar has a beautiful big shrine in the north- west. There is a well in the north-east, Kalabira in the west and the sun behind the Lord. There is also a big pond in front of the temple and the temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
