Introduction
Poovam Siddhinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Poovam town, Kotucherry Commune, Karaikal district. This place is at a distance of 8 km on the Karaikal – Poraiyar Road. This Shiva temple is located on the east of the main road. Bhuvanam has become Poovam. This can be known from the fact that Ambika’s name is Bhoovanayaki. Here the Presiding deity is called as Siddhinath and Mother is called as Bhuvananayaki.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The temple is facing east side of the town. There is a five tiered Rajagopuram. Lord Siddhinath has a sanctum to the east and Bhuvananayaka has a sanctum to the south. A hall connects the two sanctuaries. Outside the mandapam, the beautiful Lord Nandi is sitting in the mandapam facing the Lord. In Karurai; Vinayagar, Tenmukhan Lingam, Brahma and Durga. Both Vinayagar and Murugan have their own temples in Prakaram. In the northeast the Navagrahas are in the beautiful octagon hall. In the western hall there are Ekambaranatha, Kamatshi Amman, and the six serpents, Maha Vishnu, Surya, Shani and Bhairava.
