Poongavur Poongavanathar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Poongavur village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Poongavur is one and a half km west of Engan town. “Cholasudamani” river flows in the middle of this town. Here, a small temple on the south side of the town was destroyed and the villagers built a temple with a small tin shed. The Presiding deity is called as Poongavanathar and Mother is called as Malarmangai. Both Lord and Goddess are placed towards East. There is an ancient Nandi in front of the Lord. There is a broken statue of Dakshinamurthy on the south side and big bow tree at the back of the temple. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
