Introduction
Polagam Pasupatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Polagam village, Tirumalairayanpattinam circle, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. There are two towns named Polagam in this area. Hence this village is called as Thirumalairayanpattinam polagam. This Shiva temple is situated in the south-west of the town. Here the Presiding deity is called as Pasupatheeswarar and Mother is called as Bhubaneswari.
Puranic Significance
A solar power company called WARREE PV TECHNOLOGY surrounds this temple on three sides. Perhaps this place is the site of this temple; the Puducherry government may have given it to them. The temple, which had been in ruins for a long time and was a lonely temple, is currently being paved and new idols and temples are being erected. The Temple is believed to be 500-1000 years old.
Lord-Pasupadeeswarar Goddess – Bhubaneswari, East facing Shiva Temple has a wall with a small sanctum around it, a beautiful Nandi face is raised in front of the Lord. At present, a large complex has been constructed and the temple of Ambigai is situated towards the south. Vinayagar Murugan Maha Lakshmi sanctums are rising in the back. The idol of Lord Vinayagar with Sapthamata carved in a tall stone is broken and there is only an image of Lord Vinayaka, but people are still worshiping it. Restoration work is in progress.
