Introduction
Pitikesvara Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at Pitikayagulla village in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple is located at about 11 Kms from Bestavaripeta on Anantapur – Tadipatri – Guntur Highway.
Puranic Significance
The inscription at the entrance of the sanctum, written in Telugu characters and dating back to the 7th to 8th century CE. This inscription is attributed to a Chalukya King, bearing historical significance.This temple is oriented towards the east, with its inner sanctum comprising the Sanctum, Antrala, Maha Mandapa, and Mukha Mandapa. Within the Mukha Mandapa, you can find a Nandi statue facing the Sanctum. Unfortunately, all the structures except for the Sanctum have been lost to the passage of time, with only their foundations remaining visible.The Sanctum itself houses a Linga made of black basalt rock, a sacred representation of Lord Shiva.
