Introduction
Peruntharakkudi – Meppelam Vishwalinga Vaithyanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Peruntharakkudi – Meppelam, Needamangalam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. This small village is called as Peruntharakudi. Here is a Shiva temple facing east on the side of the road, a temple with surrounding walls on all four sides and a south gate as the road goes south. This temple is owned by Subbu Foundation, Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord – Vishwalinga Vaidyanath and Mother is called as Gnanambikai. The lord has an East facing sanctum and South facing Ambiga Both the sanctum are small.
The temple is said to be more than 1300 years old. There is an open hall at the front of the temple. It has a Nandi and altar. In Karurai, Vinayagar Tenmukan Lingobhavar Brahman durga is included in smaller scale. Prakaram are dedicated to Vinayagar Murugan Maha Lakshmi. In the north-east, the navagrahas are attached to the wall in front of the lord and there are shrines for the Sun and the Moon. The small temple is not maintained. It is separate from the town.
