Introduction
Aadhi Lingeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Annadhanapuram Village in Nannilam Taluk in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Lingeswarar / Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari / Thirupurasundari. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Sundarar had a mention about this Temple.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is facing east and situated on the banks of big Pond. Though the temple is east facing its entrance is from south. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Lingeswarar / Kailasanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of big Linga. Lord Shiva is worshipped with Thazampoo which shows the temple existed before the Lingodbhava legend. Vinayaga and Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai can be seen at the entrance of the sanctum. Dakshinamoorthy and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum wall. Chandikeswarar can be found in his usual location. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari / Thirupurasundari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is a shrine for Vinayaga in the southwest corner of the Temple. There is shrine for Kasi Viswanathar in the northwest corner of the Temple.
