Introduction

Sri Parvatheeswar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated in the Panangudi village, Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu in South India. The Shiva Temple is located in the banks of the Cauvery. A bridge over the river to touch the base of the temple was formerly a bamboo bridge and today it is built as a stone bridge. This shiva temple is facing East side of the village. The principal deity of this temple is Sri Parvatheeswar (Lord Shiva). This temple is about 1000 years old Shiva temple. A special feature of this temple is that the Lord resurrected as Umapati with the name of Lord, the wife of Parvatiswarar.

Puranic Significance

In the temple prakaram there is Sanctum for Ganesha, Dakshinamoorthy, Subramanian and Kailasanathar. And Ambika Parvatheeswari has a Separate Sanctum and Facing south Side. Once upon a time, the great Kamakoti who came to this temple spoke very eloquently about the late Agni Dixit who lived as a celibate. Sundarar passed through this town on his way to Tiruppukalur. Then they asked him to sing a song on this Sthalam. But Sundarar has left to worship the Lord from this side of the river, saying that my record is not bigger than the sound of the Vedas they recite daily to this place where there are many Vedas. Snake bites have been treated in this city. No matter how deadly the venomous snake bites, this town people will probably survive. That is why at that time the surrounding areas were better known as Panangudi Vaithiyam. Now none of those medical families are here; the villagers say: The agraharam of this village is deserted today. Everyone left town. However, they visit this temple once a year. The reason is that for many members of this agrahara family, this Parvatiswara is the deity. The temple, in between, lay in ruins for some time. The villagers have reunited and consecrated.
