Introduction
Munivasaga Peruman Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Neithavasal Village in Sirkazhi Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Munivasaga Peruman / Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Madhurabashini. The place was called as Neithal Vayil in ancient times. There was an area called Neithalangkaanal in Kaveri Poompattinam as per Sangam Literature. Neithavasal might be the remaining area after the deluge which submerged the historical Kaveri Poompattinam in Sea. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar had a mention about this Temple.
Puranic Significance
This is a small east facing temple with an entrance arch. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Munivasaga Peruman / Kailasanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Madhurabashini. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There are shrines of Selva Vinayagar, Subramanya, Bhairavar, Saneeswarar and Chandikeswarar in the Temple premises.
