Introduction

  • Deity:
    • Presiding deity: Kailasanathar (Shiva).

  • Location:
    • Natham Parameswara Mangalam, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.
    • Situated on a small rocky island on one side of the Palar River.
    • About 80 km from Chennai via ECR, 5 km from Kalpakkam and close to Vayalur Bridge.
  • Historical Significance:
    • Built in 800 AD during the reign of Nripatunga Varma Pallavan.
    • Renowned for its ancient Shiva Lingam, the temple has been renovated, with a new Ambal deity installed.
    • Footmarks of Kailasanathar in meditation are found on the temple’s backside, depicting a Rajanagam covering him and a cow pouring milk on him.
    • Protected by strong stones at the back to prevent flood damage from the Palar River.
    • Renovated using calcium (sudhai) without cement; Kumbabishegam took place in Feb 2013.
  • Accessibility: A small bridge has been constructed across the Palar River to reach the temple.
