Introduction

Narapura Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located on the banks of River Penna in Jammalamadugu, Kadapa, and Andhra Pradesh. Jammalamadugu town is located on the other side of the river. This is an ancient Vaishnava temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara Swamy, an incarnation of Sri Vishnu.

Puranic Significance

A person named Narapuraiah had a dream in which Sri Venkateswara Swamy appeared and told him about the idol located on the bank of Penna River. Narapuraiah, with the help of villagers, was able to find the idol on the banks of the Penna River near Jammalamadugu town. Later, he installed this idol north of the city in a pile of sand. Since then this temple was called Naranpura Venkateswara Swamy Temple. As mentioned in the inscriptions on the temple walls, the current temple consecrated by Narapuraiah was renovated in 1919 with the help of local devotees.

The temple is run by the body Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) which is under the control of the Andhra Pradesh Government in the year 2008. Later TTD constructed Sri Padmavathi Kalyanamandapam in the temple premises. The room is certainly always full of religious and cultural events, weddings and meetings of poets.

Annual Brahmotsavam will be performed during the months of Vaisakha. Rathotsavam is a popular event during Brahmotsavam, where thousands of devotees participate in pulling the Ratham. All poojas are performed as per pancharatra agama sasthram.
