Introduction
The Nagpur Ramtek Fort Temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, is indeed a historically and mythologically significant site located in Ramtek city and municipal council in the Nagpur district of Maharashtra, India.
Puranic Significance
The present temple was constructed by Raghuji Bhonsale, the Maratha ruler of Nagpur, in the 18th century. It was built after his victory over the fort of Deogarh in Chindwara.
Mythological Significance: The city of Ramtek is associated with various mythological stories. It is believed that Lord Rama visited this place during his exile. Sage Agastya’s ashram was also said to be located nearby. Evil demons disrupted the sages’ religious rituals and even killed some holy men, which angered Lord Rama. He then took a vow (tek) to rid the world of these demons.
