Puranic Significance

About 300 years ago, the region was inhabited by a large number of Parvataraja clans. Their main occupation is fishing. They were doing their business at the nearby Devanampattinam beach. At one point there was a huge recession in the fishing industry. The fish were not caught in the nets of the fishermen spread out in the sea. Thus the livelihood of the fishermen was severely affected. Stunned by this, the people decided to worship their ancestral deity Angalamman. They also decided to build a temple for the mother. But since the industry is not taking place, no one has the economy. So everyone was worried about how to build a temple for Mother. People who have finally come to an end, let’s go to the beach as Parasakthi graciously thought. We will come back there to worship Angalamman. They thought that if the business was going well, they could build a temple for their mother with the material in it. Accordingly the goddess was worshiped and the fishermen went fishing into the sea as usual. After going a certain distance, the fishermen realized that something very heavy was stuck in their net. The fishermen, who thought that by the grace of Parasakti we had got a lot of fish, when they lifted the net, they were shocked and surprised to find that there was only a tiny ebony in it. ‘How could this iconic stone be so momentary?’ They froze in shock. The fishermen, who thought there was some force in the stone, brought it to shore. Then grace came upon a woman. He said, “What you have brought is not an ordinary stone. God, I have come.” Build me a temple and worship me. All you’re suffering will be gone. ” Immediately the fishing people said, “Mother, we do not have the economy to build a temple. The industry is going sluggish. ” “You go to sea tomorrow. Your life will prosper. I will stand by the deputy. You will have no shortage anymore,”said Parasakthi. With that hope the fishermen took the net and went out to sea. That day alone, they caught too many fish to bring them ashore. The fishermen were amazed. With the money they got from selling the fish, they immediately decided to build a temple. Accordingly they set up a small shed and consecrated there the stone of the goddess’ grace found in the sea. Worship for it was going on daily. A few days later an old man came to the town. He introduced himself to the people there as he came from Mayawaram and his name was ‘Mayawaran’. He also said that he was a sculptor. He added, “Parasakthi who came in my dream, She ordered you to go straight there and set up a statue of me. I came here as my mother told me. ”Everyone there was amazed to hear it. Within a few days the sculptor carved a sculpture of beautiful divinity. They dedicated it to Adi Angalamman. In Masi Month they started worshiping a small temple. The idol carved by Mayawaran is still in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Over the years, the temple has been rebuilt by a large number of devotees with the blessings of the Goddess and a large scale temple has been built.

Beliefs

It is also hoped that if those who are not blessed with a child attend and worship the Goddess, they will surely get Child. Those who receive the child on request, after the child is born, perform the naming ceremony in the great hall of the temple. And bless the child at the feet of the goddess. It is also an unshakable hope that the marriage will take place soon, if those with a marriage ban come to the temple on Friday and Flower to the goddess with a wreath and pronounce the goddess’s name.
