Introduction
Lahugala Kiri Vehera or Kiri Vehera Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Lahugala, Ampara District, Sri Lanka. The temple is located in Perani Lahugala Grama Niladari division of Lahugala. It is believed that this temple is belonged to the reign of king Dappula I (661-664). The temple has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.
Puranic Significance
The history of this temple is believed to be dated back to the reign of King Dappula I [(661-664 A.D). Ancient Chaithya (Stupa) and ruins of Vihara complex in the territory of Kirivehera Viharaya, belonging to Lahugala village in Perani Lahugala Grama Niladari Division in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Lahugala are archaeological protected monuments, declared by a government gazette notifications published on 10 October 2014.
