Introduction
Koothur Narayaneswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Koothur village, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. The name of the God who graces here is ‘Narayaneshwarar’ and Mother is called as Athalambika. The temple is located, 3 km from Thirukkattupalli in Thanjavur.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This temple is facing east direction. High walls are all around the temple. The temple has two entrances on the north and east side of the town. Inside there is a special hall and Nandi Bhagavan’s hall is located. On the right side of the next entrance, Lord Shaniswara graces.
On the right side of the Mahamandapam, the Mother is worshiped on the pole where her concubine stands. Mother has four arms here. She carries a lotus in her upper right hand, a conch in her left hand, and Abhaya and Varadahastha seals in her lower hands. In the sanctum next to the Ardha Mandapam, Lord Narayaneshwar is seated downwards on the Lingam.
Beliefs
Irregular family problems, unavoidable problems. There is no peace at home. People who are troubled by many problems come to Mother Athalambikai. They stand in front of Mother and pray with troubled eyes. They leave the family burden at the mother’s feet and go home. With time the fruits of their prayers begin to show.
The sufferings and troubles of the people who prayed are gradually removed. The obstacles in their lives are gradually falling apart and spring is beginning to spring in their lives. Peaceful in their hearts, they come towards the mother with joy. They perform abishekah prayers to the Lord and give their thanks.
