Introduction

Kolanalli Pambalankara Swamy Temple is located in the Kolanalli village, Erode district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Pambalankara Swamy and Mother is called as Pangaiyar Selvi. This Temple is an ancient temple located on the banks of the Kalingarayan canal in Erode district. Kolanalli is located at a distance of 29 km from Erode and 12 km from Kodumudi.

Puranic Significance

The Kalingarayan canal runs between the temple wall and the lamp post. This means that the temple was built before the cutting of the Kalingarayan canal. The King of Mysore has given lands to this temple. The temple was consecrated on January 20, 1956, and after that due to some reasons the temple is not maintained properly, after many years of lack of care, the temple was rebuilt and conduct Kumbabhishekam in 2017. In the early days it was customary for devotees to enter the temple through the northern gate. During the 2017, a bridge was built above the canal to access the temple from the east side.

Beliefs

It is believed that by worshiping Pampalankara Swamy, all the doshas caused by serpent will be removed.

Special Features

The three-tiered Raja Gopuram and Two nandis are found in the spacious front hall. In the mahamandapa, Ganesha and Utsavar can be found. Pambalankara Swami is standing in the sanctum sanctorum with a sign wrapped around a serpent. Some say that the name comes from the fact that Swayambu was surrounded by a serpent when he was found in the form of Swayambu on earth. Even today, devotees have seen the movement of the serpent in this temple many times.

Archaeologists who have examined the inscription located at the base of the sanctum sanctorum tower have classified it as a Kongu Chola era inscription dating back a thousand years. The goddess has a separate shrine in the name Pangaiyar Selvi. Also Maha Ganapati, Valli Deivanai, Sametha Subramaniyar, Durgai, Sandikeswarar, Navagragams, Bhairava, Saneeswarar can also be visited in separate sanctuaries.
