Introduction
Kiliyanur Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kiliyanur village, Koothanallur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. From Koothanallur, take the road going to Vadapadimangalam and go further, there is a Kiliyanur stop. From there, cross Vennar River, there is Kiliyanur Vishwanath Temple on the roadside. This east facing temple is 10 cm wide. Here the Presiding deity is called as Vishwanath and Mother is called as Vishalaksi.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. There is no tower on the facade. There is a mandapam in front of the temple. Outside this mandapam there is a small Nandimandapam. It has a south facing Sanctum. In the sanctum sanctorum there is a medium-sized lingamurthi of the Lord. Tenmugan is the only one among Karurai Kotham. A small temple in the south has Vinayaka. There is a separate sanctum for Murugan on a large scale in the north side of the temple. There is a sanctum for Mahalakshmi and one for Ayyappan. There is a large pond to the south of the temple.
This temple is the home temple of Vadapadimangalam Thiru Arooran Sugars Limited (TASL). A temple may be erected in memory of Kashi temple. Only one-time pooja takes place here. There is also a big temple in the same town.
