Introduction
Keezhaiyur Kadaimudinathar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Keezhaiyur in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India. The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Kadaimudinathar. His consort is Abirami. It is one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams – Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirugnanasambandar. It is believed that Brahma is believed to have worshipped Shiva in the temple Thala Virutcham : Kiluvai Theertham : Karuna Theertham
Puranic Significance
Brahma, who was cursed by Shiva for being arrogant, worshiped Shiva in many places in the world. He also worshiped Lord Shiva in his mind. Shiva showed him a branch under a tree. When Brahma apologized to him, he said in consolation that liberation would be available in due time. Then at the request of Brahma he awoke spontaneously in Ital.
Beliefs
Majority of the devotees seek wedding boon in this temple. Others come to seek the pardon of Lord for wrongs committed by them. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras.
Special Features
This is the red spot facing west. The Cauvery River flows westwards at Italam. Here Lord Shiva bestows blessings as the savior in the end times of the world. That is why they say that he got the name ‘Kadimudinathar’. He is in the ‘Sodasha Linga’ system with sixteen bands. If you pray to him, you can get sixteen blessings. The Navagraha in Prakaram is located on the right-turned Audaiyar. In the octagonal shape, each of the planets is arranged back and forth, not in a straight line. Under the Kluwai tree in the prakaram, there is the Kluwainathar. He is the archetype of this temple. Nandi is also against him. Subramanian is in private with Valli and Deivana. Italavinayagar is blessed with the title of Kadimudivinayagar. This is the 18th shrine out of the 274 Shiva temples where Lord Shiva is worshiped. In terms of miracle: Here Shiva bestows blessings as a self-portrait.
