- Origin of the Idol:
- Long ago, Karisulndamangalam was a sugar-cane forest that was frequented by herds of elephants. Every day, the elephants would shower flowers and perform pooja at a specific spot in the forest.
- One day, a king came to hunt in the forest and witnessed the elephants performing their ritual. Curious, the king instructed his servants to dig the spot where the elephants performed pooja.
- Upon digging, an Amman idol was discovered.
- The idol was consecrated, and a temple was built in its honor. A Kumbabishekam (consecration ceremony) was performed.
- The idol was named Karisulntha Amman, in remembrance of the elephants’ pooja.
- Cultural Significance:
- The temple is managed by the local sect, and the community collects funds through taxes from their families for its upkeep.
