Puranic Significance
Pattatharasi Amman had a sister. Her name is Dvarapati Amman. The Pattatharasi has 16 children, Dvarapati Amma has no children. Dwarapati once came to see the Pattatharasi. At that time, the Pattatharasi hid all the children in a chicken coop, thinking that something would happen to the children if her sister’s eyes were caught.
Sister came, and She asked, “Where are the children?” “They are not at home,” replied the Pattatharasi. Since she said this, Dvarapati guessed that “sister Pattatharasi is hiding something” and said goodbye without saying anything with regret and anger.
When she left, the Pattatharasi straightened the basket. She was in shock. All her children were blind. Realizing the mistake, the Pattatharasi ran to find her sister. She apologized to her. Dvarapati also calmed her anger. She gave Thirunir to the graduate and asked her to apply it to the children. The Pattatharasi did the same, and the children received visions.
Pattarasi Amman blesses all those who seek her presence with the boon of children so that no one should suffer without a child even today. In the nearby village of Sokkalingapuram, there is a temple for Dvarapati Amman.
