Introduction

Location:

  • Located at the heart of Kallidaikurichi village, facing east. The temple structure dates back to the 15th century CE.

Temple Features:

  • No Tower: The temple lacks a traditional tower but has a flagstaff, Bali Peetha, and Garuda facing the main shrine.
  • Two Prakaras: The temple consists of two prakaras (outer and inner courtyards).
  • Sanctum Sanctorum: Houses the idol of Varaha in a sitting posture with Lakshmi on his left lap. Utsava idols of Lakshmipati with his two consorts are present, but it is unique in featuring Bhoomi Devi with Varaha.
  • Separate Shrines: There are shrines for Sridevi and Bhoodevi in the prakara, which is uncommon in many temples.

Puranic Significance:

  • Kubera, the God of Wealth, sought relief from a curse and worshipped Lord Vishnu. He made an idol of Lord Vishnu and installed it on the banks of River Tambiraparani, later disappearing. The idol was rediscovered, and the temple was built.
  • The Lord is praised as Nityakalyana Perumal, meaning the Perumal who is ever in his wedding style, and the place is also called Kalyanapuri.
  • Adhi Varaha Perumal is the central deity in a sitting form on Padma Peeta (Lotus platform), with Bhoomi Devi on his lap.
  • The temple is associated with Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar, who composed many Keerthanas on Adhi Varaha Perumal.

Special Features:

  • Tirumanjanam: Performed with water drawn from the Tambiraparani River, accompanied by auspicious music.
  • Garuda Seva: Many devotees organize Garuda Seva as their prayer commitment.
  • Shrine for Reclining Perumal: Located in the vimana tower above the sanctum sanctorum, featuring Reclining Perumal with Mother Sridevi, Bhoodevi, Lord Brahmma, and Maharshis Brugu and Markandeya.
  • Dasavathara: The 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu are depicted in idols behind the Perumal shrine.
  • Lord Dharma Sastha: Graces the temple with elephant and horse vahanas.

Beliefs:

  • Devotees pray for success in land disputes, prosperity, and marital success. Special Tirumanjanam and Garuda Seva are performed for blessings.
