Introduction

The Kalamanur Adikesava Perumal Temple is dedicated to Lord Perumal and is located in Kalamavur village, Kulathur Taluk, Pudukkottai district, Tamil Nadu.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Perumal (also known as Lord Vishnu) and is located in the village of Kalamavur.
This village is often referred to as Namanaraya Chattram.

Puranic Significance:

The temple has a historical and cultural significance in the region. According to local beliefs, the Tirumal temple, where Lord Rama is said to have been worshiped, along with a Shiva temple, were built in this town about 1,000 years ago.
Over time, these ancient temples fell into disrepair. Later, during the reign of Raghunatharaya Tondaiman, the Perumal Temple was constructed in the 18th century.
The town of Kalamavur is believed to have been famous since the time of the Ramayana, during which Rama and Sita are said to have visited the Agneeswarar Temple here on their return from Sri Lanka.
According to historical records, a monk named Kunran Adigal came to the region and named the river Agni, which flows through this area. He also built a small temple to worship Lord Shiva. In this temple, blessings are sought from Devi-Bhudevi, and the deity is depicted in a Sayanak Kolam posture.
The plan is to construct eleven shrines in the temple complex, including those dedicated to Lord Rama and Sita Devi, as well as Sakkrathalvar and Andal. Presently, only the main sanctum, the Moolavar Sanctuary, has been erected.

The temple holds historical and spiritual importance, and there are efforts to restore and expand it in the future, bringing these ancient deities back to their former glory.
