Introduction

Temple is located at a distance of 5 km from Karaikal (Niravi – Uzhiyapattu road). There are vehicle facilities from Niravi, Uzhiyapattu, Vizhithiyoor. It has been 1,100 years since Kumbabhishekam took place in this temple. Kundu Siddhar, who lived during the time of Sundara Chola and understood many glories, came here and settled and performed many miracles. So Sundara Chola told to rebuild this temple. Many more references to this temple can be found in epics such as Pramanta Purana and Naidam. As it is the place of worship of Adiseshan and Karkodakan, it is also the temple of Naga Dosham and the site of Rahu-Ketu Parikara Stalam. This temple is considered to be so special temple. The temple was so dilapidated that it stood in ruins for centuries without proper maintenance. The Maha Kumbabhishekam ceremony of the temple was held on Wednesday 4.2.2021. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple has been renovated and given a colorful display. Easen and Amma are blessing.

Puranic Significance

The deadly venomous snake, Kargodakan, is said to have attained Moksha by worshiping the Shiva lingam in this temple. It is said that Nalachakravarti visited many Shiva temples and worshiped the Shiva lingam here and then went to Thirunallar. It is also said to be the place of reparation for Rahu-Ketu Tosha as the place where the snake was liberated. Because Kargodakan was punished for touching Nalan. The people of the village are amazed that no snake has ever touched any living thing in this town.

Beliefs

We hope that our prayers will soon be fulfilled as we attend and worship Lord Shiva and Lord Nandi. The temple houses the shrines of Sri Karpagambal, Bhairava Murthy, Srinathrajar, Nagan and Navagraha of Karkodagan. Chandra Pushkarani Theertham; Vilvan Thala Virksha. If you bathe in the theertham here and pay the silver serpent ring in the piggy bank, the Rahu-Ketu dosham will be removed; If you pray for the cradle to be tied to the arch tree, you will get the blessing of Santhanam; It is said that if a yellow rope is tied to the Nakar idols, the marriage boon is obtained.

Special Features

As the place where Nalan got grace, Sani Bhagavan is also the place of redressal of grievances. This is the place where the gods and goddesses always come and pray to Easan. The special feature of this temple is that Nandi Devar’s head is tilted to the right in order to continue listening to their prayers.
