Introduction
Kagam Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kagam village, Thiruthurapoondi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. This Kagam village can be reached half a km to the right from the Kachanam bus stand in the eighteenth km of Thiruvarur. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar in the form of lingam.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The name of the town is not known. However, when one of the crows was carrying Nivedana’s seed ball in Avinasi, a piece of it fell into Shiva’s mouth, and because he had taken it with his food, he got it, and the crow that did this unknowingly got the name of Thirkata Tundan. We will have a lot of blessings that we also worship the Lord who is worshiped by a Sivaganam.
On the bank of a large pond in the north of the town, only a lingamurthi is found, it is said to be called Kailasanathar; Periyalingamurthy, and an ancient broken Nandi. They have built a temple in a tin shed under a big banyan tree. In front of him are Nandi and the small Vinayagar Balamurugan along with a few Bhairavar murthys, worshiping this Lord.
