Introduction

  • Deity: Hangseswari, a form of Maa Adi Parashakti Jagatjanani Dakshina Kali.
  • Foundation: Laid by Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay in December 1799.
  • Completion: The temple was completed in 1814 by his second wife, Rani Sankari, after Raja Nrisinhadeb Roy Mahasay’s death in 1802.

  • Historical Context: Bansberia is an industrial town between Bandel and Tribeni. Rani Hanseswari, the mother of Raja Nrisingha Deb Roy, is the namesake of the deity.

  • Temple Complex: Includes another temple, the Ananta Basudeba Temple, alongside the Hanseswari Temple.
