Introduction
The Fatehgarh Shiva Temple is a ruined ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Location: The Fatehgarh Shiva Temple is located in Fatehgarh Village in the Baramulla District of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated at approximately 10 kilometers from Baramulla Bus Stand, 11 kilometers from Baramulla town, 15 kilometers from Baramulla Railway Station, and about 72 kilometers from Srinagar Airport. The temple is situated on the Baramulla to Uri route.
Architectural Significance: This ancient temple is in a state of ruin, with only the walls of the sanctum surviving. Within the sanctum, a fragment of a reasonably large Shiva Linga can be found over the platform. The temple is believed to have been constructed in the 9th century AD.
The Fatehgarh Shiva Temple is not only an architectural relic but also holds historical and religious significance. It’s a testament to the rich heritage of the region and the worship of Lord Shiva in this part of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite its ruined state, the temple reflects the art and culture of a bygone era.
