Introduction
Chidambaram Thirukkalancheri Brahmapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thirukkkalancheri, Chidambaram circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. The temple covers an area of one acre and once you cross the temple facade, there is a linga murthy under a big royal tree. Here the Presiding deity is called as Brahmapureeswarar and Mother is called as Brahmanayaki.
Puranic Significance
The name of the lord of this temple is Brahma Pureeswarar. The lingam is kept in the house of Sage Vasishta. And the Tirthakulam here is one of the ten sathirthas belonging to Nadaraja and is known as Singharathoppu. Also called Thirukkalancheri. This temple in Singharathoppu is famous for performing Vasishta Puja. The mystic Sambandar performed Puja in this temple and passed away there. Jeevasamadhi temple for him is located near the gate of this temple. The temple is said to be 1500 years old.
The temple of Brahmapureeswarar is facing east. The goddess is towards the south side. There is the most ancient Chola period lingamurthi shrine in the temple. Karurai Kothams include Vinayaka, Tenmukhan, Lingotpavar, Brahman and Durgai. Near Vinayagar, the relief sculpture of Lord Patanjali, Agathiyar, Thirumalthan with his entourage and Pillai Thirunanasambandar, Appar Manikkavasakar are presented. The Prakaram has a Vinayagar temple with a pillared front hall. There are many inscriptions of the Chola period on the walls of the temple. The temples are specially anointed and worshiped daily.
