Introduction
Bhubaneswar Tirthesvara Temple Located opposite Bhabani Shankar Temple Complex on Bindu Sagar Road in old Bhubaneswar, Tirthesvara Temple (also known as Teertheswara) is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This 14th century temple is now being suffocated at the hands of both man and nature. Because of the encroachments from all sides including the road in front, rain water stagnates within the temple precinct and the sanctum often floods. Wild grasses, creepers and pipal trees growing on and around the temple are also causing a serious threat to the monument. Tree roots are expanding the gaps between the joints of dry stone masonry and facilitating the seepage of rain water into the fabric of the building. The sanctum that appears to have been recently tiled, perhaps an attempt to hold back that seeping rain water.
