Introduction

Kotiteertheswara Temple (also known as Kotitirthesvara Temple) is located halfway between the cluster of monuments around Mukteshwar Temple and Bhindu Sagar Tank, just 50m south of Swarnajaleshwar Temple in old Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the west-facing temple was built by the Somavansi dynasty in a Kalinga pacharatha style in the 11th century A.D. The main temple and subsidary shrines are quite plain without any ornamentation of note. It is believed that bathing in the adjacent Kotiteertha Tank, which is fed by a natural spring, and then worshiping the linga in the sanctum is equal to 10,000,000 pilgrimages. This is considered quite an important temple in the city. During the annual Damanaka Chaturdashi festival (March/Apil) the Chandrasekhara idol visits this temple for worship from Lingaraja Temple
