Introduction
Bhavnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Bhavnagar City in Bhavnagar Taluk in Bhavnagar District in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Puranic Significance
The temple is believed to be built in 17th century CE.
Special Features
The temple is recognized as one of the state-protected monuments in Gujarat, designated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). It is oriented towards the east and is situated atop a raised platform. The temple’s architectural structure consists of a sanctum and an open mukha mandapa (entrance hall).
Inside the sanctum, there are three Shiva Lingas and an idol of goddess Parvati. The sanctum is crowned with a nagara-style shikara (tower). The walls around the sanctum feature niches, although these niches do not contain any idols or sculptures. The exterior of the temple lacks decorative elements. This temple is conveniently located approximately 500 meters from Bhavnagar, making it easily accessible to visitors interested in exploring its historical and religious significance.
