Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. Goddess Parvati took incarnation as Vanapechiyamman in the forest due to Lord Shiva’s curse. Shiva Himself took the form of Sudalai Madan as the son of Pachyamman. Both went to earth and took up the business of protecting people. Among the 21 Bandi deities, Pachyamman is the most important forest deity. Pachyamman is the foremost guardian of all the 21 Bandhi deities and graces the people as Shiva is buried in the aspect of Shakti. She has Shiva’s weapons like trident, rattan, kapala vessel, knife, sword, sword, kiluku, udukaki, skull and whip. This Bandi village is said to be the place where Parvati resides as Bandi deity.
