Introduction
- Location:
- Anegudde is located 9 km south of Kundapura, Udupi District, Karnataka.
- Also known as Kumbashi, the name is derived from the demon Kumbhasura.
- Significance:
- One of the seven “Mukti Sthalas” (places for liberation) of Karnataka, also part of the ‘Sapthakshetra’ of Tulunadu.
- Dedicated to Lord Vinayaka (Ganesha), believed to fulfill the wishes of devotees and grant salvation.
- The temple is over 1500 years old.
- Puranic Legends:
- The temple is associated with the Bhargava Purana.
- The legend of Kumbhasura, a demon who disrupted the yagna of sage Agasthya, leading to Lord Ganesha’s intervention by granting Bheema a sword to kill the demon.
- The name “Kumbhashi” is derived from this legend.

- The idol of Lord Vinayaka is 12 feet tall, carved from a single stone, and covered in silver armor.
