Introduction
Alangadu Alankateeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Alangadu village, Sirkazhi circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu.Here the Presiding deity is called as Alankateeswarar and Mother is called as Balambika. This temple is called as Lord Agastheeswarar temple. The Lord has an east facing temple on the banks of a large pond. The deity has a south facing shrine. Other deities are Vinayagar, Murugan and Upasannas were also present in the ruined front hall where Vinayagar, Murugan, Valli, Deivanai Bhairava and Suryan Sandesar Nagas are laid to rest. A small dome-like shrine of Vinagaya and Murugan shrines are leaning in front of the temple. There is also a small pond behind the temple. Most of the temple has fallen into disrepair due to lack of maintenance. Trees and vines are sprouting everywhere in the temple. It seems that the priest comes only for one time puja. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
